Goldeneye is the seventeenth James Bond film, it was directed by Martin Campbell and was the first James Bond movie to star Pierce Brosnan as Bond and also the first movie not related to any of Ian Fleeming's novels. It was also the first movie to feature Judi Denich as M, who was the first woman to depict this character.

Plot

During the Cold War between Westrn Europe and the Soviet Union, James Bond has infiltrated a chemical weapons facility in the Arkangel'sk region of the country, where he met his partner, Alec Trvelyan. As they found a chemical weapons area, but Soviet soldiers try to stop them with their commander Colonel Arkady Ourumov. Bond escapes the facility and it blows up, but he lost Trevelyan in the process. 9 years have passed since then, the Soviet Union has dissolved and now back to Russia, MI6 has a new "M" and there was peace everywhere. But, a new criminal orginization was coming out of hiding, known as The Janus Syndicate, they have stolen a secret weapon known as "GoldenEye", which can shoot EMP bursts that can shut down an entire city. Bond is called into action again, to find out about the Janus Syndicate and recover the GoldenEye. But, what he does not know that Janus has special plans for him.

Release and Reception

GoldenEye premiered on November 13, 1995 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City and went out to general release on November 17, 1995. The film premiered in the UK five days later on November 22, 1995. The film earned $26 Million US on its premiere and earned $350 Million US worldwide. It therefore had the fourth highest worldwide gross in 1995 and was the most successful Bond film since Moonraker.

One of the most critically acclaimed FPS games of all time, Goldeneye was released for the Nintendo64 in 1997 two years after the film's release. It recieved positive reviews, gaining a 9.7/10 from IGN and an average rating of 96/100 based on Metacritic's review compilations. The game itself was based off the film and followed the plot closely, while adding extra details in each mission.
